Course Information

Who is the course for
This course is designed for people who have completed FINE 2 or NIDCAP certification, who have a key role in family-centred or neurodevelopmental care within their neonatal unit and who have management support to explore service improvements.

Curriculum
FINE 3 is a project-based course with a focus on systems change. Understanding change management is approached through three projects: a detailed nursery assessment, a family case study and a quality improvement project.

The NIDCAP Nursery Assessment Scales identify systems’ strengths and gaps in detail. The family case study involves exploring one family’s experience through their neonatal journey and often highlights surprising challenges. Both projects help to identify suitable areas of practice for a small quality improvement project that is organised around a systematic change management framework. Literature reviews are part of the planning process.

Mentorship is provided for up to eighteen months to cover completion of the quality improvement project. Students are also guided to develop their presentation skills by showcasing their work at a public forum such as a professional meeting or a journal submission.

Impact
FINE 3 projects play an important part in service developments. You can see the results of some FINE 3 projects on our Resources page.
